peter bjorn and john remixed.

it has been a while since we heard from indie superheroes peter bjorn and john, so i guess they felt like stirring up some hype again and that's why there are two new remixes coming up now. first are discodust favorites the golden filter with their mellow laidback rework of 'lay it down' which once again proves that they are here to stay and they will totally break through this year. next up is uk designer slash producer friend who steps deep into the urban jungle for his percussion-heavy tribal disco remix of 'inland empire'.

peter bjorn and john - lay it down (the golden filter remix)
peter bjorn and john - inland empire (friend remix)

show peter bjorn and john, the golden filter and friend some myspace love!

Frikstailers

Masala pointed me to Frikstailers back in July and now they are finally getting a vinyl release on Revolt Into Style. It is also the first release on the label which also contains tracks from MC Zulu.

Look out for more releases coming your way from them in the future, Douster, Marcelo Fabian, and Argentine experimental outfit Zort are ready to release on the label. But for now you can get the Baile Frik EP on Juno.

Bangers

If you only download one tune from this list, make sure it's this one. Filthy Dukes are funny ones. Sometimes banging out twisted disco-punk, other times producing straight up indie-electro or strange bassey house. . Tupac Robot Club Rock's original is a dirty electro-house stomper. Oliver $ brings his minimal fidget flavour (minimal + fidget = 'midget', apparently) to the banger with bumpy, punchy womps of buzzing bass (also check out L-Vis 1990 bassy hummer):

Filthy Dukes - Tupac Robot Club Rock (Oliver $ Remix) (Direct Link)

This year both dubstep and bassline have generated a real buzz. Rossi B and Luca consistently pump out innovative tunes fusing dubstep, bassline and grime. Here we have ominous dubstep, shouty grime and spooky FX to boot.

Rossi B & Luca - Music Money

Oizo's produced a real beauty here. Admittedly he's always been a dark horse; the runt of the pack - his experimental album material often crossing over from strange and weird to the downright unlistenable. But let's not forget he gave us 'Flat Beat' - a tune almost a decade ahead of it's time. Last week Oizo dropped his latest album 'Lambs Anger' - his most accessible to date, and certainly more danceable than some of his most jarring, glitched stuff. This tune sees Oizo's doing what he does best: soulful vocal-house, jazzy instrumentation and a delicious retro disco sound.

Mr Oizo feat. Carmen Castro - Two Takes It
(Direct Link)

Winehouse has a possessing voice - beautiful, melodic and strangely suited to this dubstep remix. The best dubstep tunes tend to weild some kind of accessible hook - be it vocal or otherwise. This was released earlier in the year:

Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game (Moody Boyz Remix) (Direct Link)

This tune by Fukkk Off has been everywhere and, thought it's not their best, has finally gained them the attention they deserve. . Le Castlevania bring their boisterous brand of growling electro. Big room banger:

Fukkk Offf - Rave Is King (Le Castle Vania Remix)
(Direct Link)

Andy George injects Toddla T's trademark bashment sound with some extreme wobble - thudding dubby and wonky bass. Andy George's recently been signed to bassey, fidget label Potty Mouth Music. Alongside Metronomy, Toddla T is currently bathing in limelight thanks to his lent production skills on Roots Manuva's latest album 'Slime and Reason'. He has an album coming out later in 2009 and can be caught at the next Trouble Vision, Corsica Studios, 6th March:

Toddla T - Manabadman (Andy George Re-fix)

Junkie XL's a master of big beat and stadium-sounding electronica (electronica is the word people often use when they don't want to admit they have no idea what genre that artists really is...) - think the rocky vibes of Chemical Brothers and Prodigy, with a little Fatboy Slim charm. Here we have a filthy monster, equipped with a heavily looped vocal sample, some whirring vintage synths and dirty crunchiness:

Junkie XL - Booming Right At You
(Direct Link)

Croydon's very own FrankMusik is another one of those electro-poppers whose cheesy, delicious vocals are ripe for remixing. The crooning, high-pitched vocal-work is glitched and set against some fizzing electro fun. (thanks to my homies over at Copper Tallis for this one):

FrankMusik - 3 Little Words (Louises Lovers Remix)
(Direct Link)

Jack Beats: one of my favourite remixers of the year. These days Jack Beats are nudging in on some mean line-ups, while their AC Slater and Boy 8-bit remixes have garnered crowd-pleasing status in DJ sets. And they have some highly anticipated original material to be released in 2009 on Herve's Cheap Thrills. I believe it's titled 'K-hole'... make of that what you will. Maybe it's just about... cereal and... er... holes. Don't fear yet, I'm sure it won't be as cringe as Kissy Sell Out prancing around the mixmag tent in a neon wife-beater, brandishing a fog horn, banging on about how he's "back in the k-hole, back in the zone agaaain". I have trust in the Beats.

Be sure to buy their all whirring and whining remix of Project Bassline. Below, Steed Lord's latest is given their trademark squelching bass treatment:

Steed Lord - It's What U Do 2 Me (Jack Beats Remix) (Direct Link)

Shame on you if you haven't heard this one yet. And shame on me for not posting it earlier. Perfectly glitched disco-house, echoing vocals and a reverberating bassline. Eat it - and in case you feel the stuttering momentum isn't quite suited to the dancefloor grab the '4 to the floor' version too:

Phonat - Learn To Recycle (Direct Link)

Phonat - Learn To Recycle (4 To The Floor Remix) (Direct Link)

Rogerseventytwo's remix of DJ DLG is another of those dreamy disco-house numbers, reminiscent of some of Daft Punk vocal-styled tunes: 'Around The World', 'One More Time' and 'Too Long'. Whirring synths and slap bass keep this one firmly rooted in the 80s:

DJ DLG - Paramount (Rogerseventytwo Remix) (Direct Link)

Mightyfools (previously Man Eat DJ and DJ Jizm) They're remixes are pure filthy, crunky fun - be sure to check out Mightfools remixes of DMX and Oh Snap!. Fusing elements of hip-hop, house and techno, Mightyfools know how to get you bouncing. Here we have a bumpy, wobbly remix:

Dj Rockid - Girlz (Mightyfools Remix)
(Direct Link)

London's The Young Punx have put together this superb mashup - blending Deadmau5's Ghost's N Stuff's jackin house beat with Shapeshifters' uplifting strings. The strings and brass were apparently rerecorded live by The Young Punx in order to clarify the harmony. Mash-ups tend to run the risk of ending up sounding gimmicky, tacky and throw-away. This is brilliant (thanks Vogelspand):

The Young Punx - Lola's Ghost (Deadmau5 'Ghosts N Stuff' vs Shapeshifters 'Lolas Theme') (Direct Link)

Bonus:

Day 'n' Night: one of those few tunes that everyone liked this year (bar perhaps your parents) - you'll hear this humming away in your local spar, you'll hear it on your 15 year old sister's ipod and you'll hear it blasted out of sky-high speakers at Global Gathering. But you can take smug comfort in the fact that you found it well before any of those latecomers (and you found it on Pelski). Just for fun, we have a garage re-rub of the overplayed Crookers remix, courtesy of Curb Crawlers:

Kid Cudi vs Crookers - Day 'n' Night (Agent X) (Direct Link)
When it comes to riotous remixes, A1 Bassline's the don. He's seen alot of blog love over the last year. And we have a couple of exclusives and a few of his older bangers you'll recognise. He just finished this wavering, wobbly Rusko bootleg alongside his buzzing, reverberating remix of the criminally underrated Ghost Frequency. His recent retouch of vocal warbler '3 Little Words' retains the delicious vocal hook, with some added bassline beef. His latest, a banging remix of The Qemists's, just saw a release on Ninja Tunes. An old favourite of mine is his heavily thuddy remix of fellow Party Shanker's 'Boots' (it appeared on this blog almost a year ago). He injects his old school, bubbly garage into Damaged Goods and Cadence Weapon, while clappy drums and pulsing bass form the backbone of his energetic 'Whomp That Sucka' remix. Unfaltering dancefloor ammo:

Pirate Soundsytem - another favourite - won the Girl Thing remix competition with this tight production:

TRACKS REMOVED BY REQUEST OF ( IFPI) Sorry

Pick up a copy of the superb Girl Thing E.P here. And be sure to catch one of A1 Bassline's storming sets. He's playing in london on 24 January at Babycakes Party, and is playing in Germany towards the end of the month. But, truly not to be missed is his appearance at Chew The Fat at Corsica Studio alongside Fake Blood, Bird Peterson, Trevor Loveys, Foamo, Pirate Soundsystem and Pelski buddies Solid Gold & Park Ranger. Huge.

Your Mum, Brixton Telegraph

A new night in London's just hit the streets of Brixton - focusing on every and any brand of filthy bass. You Mum's first night sees 2 Bit Thugs head the bill: the fun-loving crew whose remixes have been rallying up alot of support. Glitchy and crunky bangers. Vocal snippets are looped along to choppy, bouncy beats, tied together by bmore drums patterns. They're imaginative brand of hip-hop infused house is all womping and warping bass. They've amusingly labeled themselves 'gangsta house' - but it's fitting with those dirty vocals and chirpy beats permeating they're playful sets. As the great Dj Skeet Skeet once said: "Real Thugs Play Electro". (Also check 2 Bit Thugs' brilliant remix of Rico Tubbs' 'Gangsters', unfortunately I don't have permission to post it here).:

Their jittery remix of 2 Live Crew is a choppy, wonky bmore number. And the baltimore re-edit of B.Rich is similarly bouncy bmore (and made an appearance in Pelski's Playlist V). 2 Bit Thugs' remix of Block Rockin' Beats is a refreshing take on the classic stadium anthem, with squelchy bass and stuttery percussive beats:

lies in disguise.

you might be aware that dylan of le castle vania just recently released his heavy remix of fukkk offf's dancefloor anthem 'rave is king' that i guess everyone's been really enjoying.

but could 2009 start any better than with a new tune by his side project and discodust favourites lies in disguise? dylan and his friend/moving units frontman blake miller teamed up again for some production, this time also including blake's vocals. the result is this gorgeous guitar rave banger. enjoy it while it's hot!

lies in disguise - meet your replacement

make sure to check out le castle vania's new website lecastlevania.com and also show those liars some well-deserved myspace love!

ac slater.

ac slater.

as we all start out the new year with new resolutions, and new ambitions, others of us are starting the new year off with new record labels. choosing to take music matters into his own hands, ac slater decided to launch his own label party like us records ('plur' for all you rave kids). 'party like us' is the first off the blocks and got a re-mastering as it's ready to hit the clubs.

just in case you forgot what ac slater likes, he reminds you over and over again in this track... bass! bass! bass!

ac slater - party like us

inspired by an old sample, udachi starts things off with enough energy to power a 'burning man' village for an entire week. he snagged those epic rave synths and injected some heavy bass for the perfect balance.

ac slater - party like us (udachi remix)

can't wait to see what comes out of the plur camp next. it's like the parents are out of town, the kids are home alone and there are no rules. houseparty!

Rave is King REMIXED

Rave is King REMIXED

Rave is King is a track from Fukkk Offf. A real banging raving track with a very basic, but catchy lyric! And when a certain track is very popular it doesn't take long for remixes to show up! The EP is just released and includes 3 remixes. Zodiac Cartel, Midfield General (Disco Sirens!!) and NROTB. My favourite remix is probably the one from Zodiac Cartel, this one sounds the most "finished" in some way. The midfield general remixes keeps building up in my opinion and doesn't really hit the climax. And the one from NROTB sounds a bit ... cheap? ... compared to the other two. So here are two remixes from the EP... "Can you feel it? Rave is king!"

Ed Banger Xmas gift!

Ed Banger Xmas gift!

A special gift from the Ed Banger crew for this years christmas. Well more of a gift from Erol Alkan that is, he re-edited the track Momy from Sebastian (A track which was included on his previous EP, Motor). Erol Alkan likes to call the edit a "Simple, Yet Effective Edit". And that's exactly what it is, a nice build up which makes it a perfect opener for any set!

Sound of Stereo

Sound of Stereo

The first track to kick off 2009 (except happy new year shit) is from Sound of Stereo the Belgian revelation of 2008. They scored very well with their fidget like tracks and got picked up by a lot of other dj's and producers (to just mention one: The Bloody Beetroots). The release of their latest EP wasn't so along ago and already they have some new tracks coming up. One of these tracks is "Jack my trombone" typical Sound of Stereo , very sweet fidget sound and deep vocals (I uploaded the preview version, so this isn't the full version!). A part from the new track Sound of Stereo also uploaded a new mixtape! Which includes Heads Up! another new track from Sound of Stereo which I hope to be released soon enough (should be end of Februari I've been told), you can get a small preview (live @ I love techno 2008) of the Bloody Beetroots remix from the track right here.
